What To Expect As An Avon Rep
Once you have officially become an Avon Rep and you have been issued with your area (or territory) and your first batch of product catalogues, your are ready to start earning extra money with Avon.
It is difficult to predict how successful you will be in terms of finding new customers, even though Avon will give you an estimate on how many customers you are likely to achieve and the number of sales they wull produce. You are better off not relying on the prediction numbers in order to try and predict the value of your first commission cheque because like all new businesses, it takes time and effort to become successful.
Customers will vary considerably depending on the area you are in and what their needs and buying habits are. Some will buy from you regularly, but only place very small orders as they try new products while others will not want to buy very often, but when they do, they place a large order. Until you have started working in your area and get to know your customer's buying habits, it is almost impossible to predict how much commission you are going to make early on. One aspect which is likely to occur though, is your customers will increase their orders with you when they get to know and trust you more.
Almost every Avon rep begins selling part time and those with a relatively large "friends and family" social network can earn a decent second income from serving those close to them. However, if you are a rep that needs to find new customers to build up your earnings, more work is involved as you will need to "hit the streets" and find interested people in your local area.
If you decide to knock on doors or do a catalogue drop, you will find some people are keen on becoming a customer and they may buy from you for months or even years to come. There are of course people at the opposite end of the spectrum who will give your catalogues back unopened and will not welcome you delivering any more to their home. When you come across people who fall into this category - don't waste your time or theirs, save your catalogues for someone who will actually want them.
When you have found some customers, it is essential you keep delivering new catalogues to them, even if they don't order from you every single time. As long as your catalogues are being looked through, you should assume people are interested in receiving them until they inform you otherwise, so you must keep delivering them each campaign and in theory should make a few new customers each time. Persistence is the key for long term success because you don't want to fall into the trap of needing to rely on a handful of regulars because they may not order every campaign.
The catalogue delivering is probably the most time consuming and "boring" part of being an Avon rep, but think of it as good excercise and the chance to interact with those in your local community. The ordering system doesn't take very long to master and sorting delivered products for your customers when they arrive becomes easy with a little practice.
Delivering the products to your customers is also a key part of your long term strategy. You can really get to know who is buying from you and when you understand their preferences and buying habits, you will be in a strong position to recommend them even more fantastic products - increasing your commissions even further!
Being an Avon rep is not a fast track to wealth and riches, but a little work and enthusiasm can bring you a decent second income and could even turn into a full time venture if that is what you want to achieve from Avon in the long term.
